I don't think its a matter of pacing himself, so much as a matter of
keeping his brain out of his pitching.

Bard has the stretches where Annie Savoy would have handed the glove to
Millie and said, "Here we go."  His pitches aren't even close to the strike
zone.  It's telling that this happened to him twice with a number nine
batter whose OPS was in the 5's.  He's clearly over-thinking.

That said, I thought the Sox did a great job against Verlander, even
without Pedroia.
