I love how we hated the irresponsible big contracts the Sox were giving out, but a month into the offseason we're already in the "pay him whatever he wants" mode.
Two years, $25 million is plenty for an aging DH coming off an injury-plagued season. He should be happy to get it. I believe the Sox can tender him for one year, $13 million. If he wants to pull a Ray Allen and take less money to play for someone else, fine, but no one else is going to offer him that much money, so what is the purpose of paying him more? Papi will just bitch about it in the second year of the deal anyway ... Ross is completely fungible. He had a good year (in the "Tom Brunansky leads the team in HRs" sort of a way), but he should really be a platoon player and he's never going to give more than he did in 2012. Sign him, don't sign him, I'm ambivalent. Steve O On Fri, Nov 2, 2012 at 2:30 PM, Dan DiBiase <[email protected]> wrote: > They need to pay Ortiz whatever he wants, is my feeling.
