I agree with your sentiment here Dan. Let's bring Ortiz back, and Ross would
be nice too. I expect the Sox feel like their negotiation position will be
strengthened when clubs don't start throwing lucrative 3 year deals at Ortiz.

I also think that Sox management is looking at 2013 as a bridge year until they
can get a shot at some top free agent pitchers, like Felix Hernandez for
instance.

BTW Dan - How did you fare in the storm?

They need to pay Ortiz whatever he wants, is my feeling. They can't replace the
offense he has put up. Yeah, he's a year older, and
injured, but they need him now more than ever, both from a baseball perspective
and a 'public relations' perspective. Ross, I would
like to have back but not at crazy money. I would do 2 years for him but not
three (unless it was a club option). But he wants to be here
so I think that will get done as well.

I don't see that Ortiz is worth the same money that he made the past two years.
He's 36, spent a big chunk of the season injured, and may be ready for a slide.

If there was a deal it would need to be incentive-laden.

We do "The Trade" so we'll have financial flexibility. We're going to focus on

don't know what the players are asking, but I wish we'd locked them down for a
few more years. --
