I just joined this list and will be setting up my first salt water aquarium
in a few weeks.
I have heard "Ron's" name mentioned a lot on this list.

I cannot seem to get the fine bubbles like Ron get's in his skimmers
(without spewing gallons of clear water). (I've been to his store many
times, and have observed his skimmers) Even after I replace the (two)
airstones, clean the neck/cup, and clean the Magnum I still don't get the
correct small bubbles after a 1-3 day breakin period. Ron recommended to me
that I replace the small pieces of airline that start from the "T" at the
bottom of the skimmer. I've done that.
The only thing left that I can think of is that I have my Tetratec 96-2 on
about 8' of airline tubing before it even reaches the skimmer entrance (to
keep the airpump above the skimmer). I could try to hang the airpump from
the back of the tank, or something, to get the distance from the airpump to
the skimmer reduced.
When I do get the fine bubbles (the air is turned up pretty far), the
skimmer in foaming out of control, and I have a *very* turbulent neck. and
the water in the collection cup just comes out clear... for a very long
time. I've emptied 5 gallons already, and it just kept on going.
At the moment, I have the magnum 350's output reduced by 1/2 and the bubbles
are large ones in the neck that I can see... but, they do "pop" at the top
of the neck. The skimmate does smell (alittle), but I've been around when
Ron emptied his skimmers, and it is nowhere near his.
Any suggestions?
