Galvin,
We all make mistakes. Thats how we learn. Now you know. If you do it again,
that will be stupid! Before we decide how to treat the fish, it is really
important to figure out exactly what it has. Do you know anyone who can come
over and ID it for you??? Does it look like salt? You say theres a few
spots left. Does that mean that it is getting better? If so, leave it alone
and see if it goes away.
Also, if you see specks crawling on the glass, that means that the
coppersafe was not that effective. Those white spots you see are probably
"critters" from your sand, so your sand may be okay.
FWIW

I thought about the sand but was not sure if copper would kill
it. I
figured saving the trigger was most important. Now I wish I had
found a
better way to treat him like using a hospital tank. Guess thats one
of the
stupid mistakes I have made lately.
The trigger still has a few white spots on him. This has been
going on
about two months now. I have tried Melafix & lots of coppersafe. A
few spots
have went away but not all cured yet. Any suggestions to a cure?
From what I know (which is little) it looks more like ick than
velvet.
I can also see very little white specks crawling on the glass.

Water changes, activated carbon and change any filter media

Also, why did you use copper in a tank that has live sand?
