The biggest benefit with O3, is that your ORP will come up while you use it,
therefore the more you use the less you will need. And when your ORP is real
high, you won't have to worry about additional nutrients turning into algae.
BTW, I run a 360mg unit (I know it's over-sized) thru a self-levelling
reactor along with an ORP controller. The 150 GAL reef it 's used on, is
CHOCK full of corals and inverts, Anemones, Mangrove plants, etc.... The only
time the Ozone generator even comes on anymore, is after I feed the tank. I
turn the controller off when I feed Phytoplankton so it doesn't kill it.
Another added bonus is the reactor itself... even if the Ozonizer is off, the
air being blown thru the reactor alone, keeps ORP and Oxygen levels very
high. How's the gas exchange in that tank with the hair algae ? Do you have a
lid on your reef ? I never run covers on my reefs, to much co2 buildup (All
plants love that)
Before spending time and $ on any new equipment, try adding a refugium, and
putting it on reverse daylight to start, then possibly going to 24/7
daylight, I grow all kinds of algae in mine, not just Macro's, I've got red
slime, hair, micro, dino's all kinds of gross shit in there....better there
than in your display.
