It's not important, but it's a great indicator of water issues that are
about to occur. A stable ORP that suddenly starts rising or falling
indicates that something is probably going wrong in your tank, and this
knowledge allows you to hunt the problem down and take action as early as
possible.
I look at it as my early warning system. The values don't matter, as long
as it's stable (allowing for appropriate variations during the normal
day-night cycle).
