Hey everyone. Just got back from a trip to Mystic aquarium and I am very
fired up about my own tank. I have now got the itch for an even bigger tank
if I can find a good spot for it and convince my wife to let me do this. I
have read the article on GARF's website about the guy who built his own 500
gal tank (i think I have actually read it at least 50 times) I think that
there is no reason why this would not work but I was wondering if anybody
out there has giving this a try or knows anybody that has. My concern is
how will a tank like this will stand up to the years. I have an old 125 gal
tank that is sitting in my basement that I thought that I could use for a
glass panel. I would like the tank's base to be a 4 x 8 foot sheet of
plywood Unless I could find a wider sheet then I would go wider. My
picture is a tank with alot of open water for fish to swim with 3 or 4
individual reef stuctures and maybe a few small sections of rock in between.
I also think that I could get an old swimming pool filter to run the tank.
My grandparents had a pool that colapsed about a year ago and they are not
going to put another one back up. Basically a free pump!!! Does anyone out
there use a pool filter on a large tank? If so how does it work? Would
this suck up more electric than a couple of regular pumps? The other bonus,
if this works well I picture the other side of the 125 becoming other tanks!
Right now this is a fantasy I have been working up in my head because it may
take some time to even prepare for this but i would like to hear some feed
back from the list. Also I think I have talked my wife into letting me get
a calcium reactor any recomendations out there. I think I have narrowed it
down to a couple of reactors the Korallin C-1502 package from Premium
Aquatics for $499 or a K2R deluxe package from champion for $539. Right now
I am leaning towards the Korallin but the K2R package includes a pH monitor.

For anyone that read this far, thanks alot.
Ben
