All,
Had the chance to score some more LR from someone who is getting out of the
hobby this last weekend. Hopefully I will be able to get a larger tank when
we move (into a house) next year, and so I am trying to score extra LR when
and where I can. Got this stuff for a buck a pound. Anyways, I picked it up
and took it home and while I was examining it, I found a very small bubble
anemone (a little smaller than my thumbnail). Seems that it may have been on
the LR when they took it home, and it never got a chance. So, it is still
alive, but is very small and beached out.
I put it at the bottom of my tank so it gets some light. Not a ton, but
some, and is getting a medium/low current. Since I have had it, it has
eaten, and eaten well. I fed it some small krill on day 2, and it ate 3 of
them. On day 3, I fed some silversides and it ate them. I fed twice that
day. Yesterday, I fed mysis shrimp, and it at 3 of them. So, it seems to
have a good appetite.
I dont agree with keeping anemones, but I figure I might as well give this
guy a try and see if I can bring him back. Does anyone have any suggestions
on anything else I can do to increase my chances? Has anyone on the list
saved one of these types of anemones after it has bleached? I read once that
once they do that, it is pretty much over for them, however he really eats
well and responds quickly to being touched. He has not moved since being
placed in the tank. I did notice he has a slight green tint (xooanthelle??)
when the actinics are on. Maybe there is hope?
TIA everyone,
Shane C.
