Sure.  But also, would you be able to run "xev" from the command-line
and hit the Home key in the little window that pops up?  This is what I
see:

KeyPress event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0xbc00001,
    root 0x3e3, subw 0x0, time 133045345, (93,128), root:(4804,641),
    state 0x0, keycode 110 (keysym 0xff50, Home), same_screen YES,
    XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
    XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes:
    XFilterEvent returns: False

If you can capture your output (it can be tricky because xev spits
out a TON of events) it would let me see why it's not working for you.
You could just pipe it to reduce the output to the one line I really
need:

    xev | grep keysym
