Well, yes, they should work just fine, but it seems like overkill. Since 
you're only using one freq, not only do you not need an SX, you really 
don't even need an S, although the Phoenix S is a pretty good choice. 
This kind of thing is a great application of the old crystal Phoenix's 
that are likely gathering dust.

The GE MVP mobiles make nice packages too. Get a UHF one, and one on the 
band your rptr is on (2M, 6M, or 10M), and swap rx front end chassis. 
Duplex the one with the UHF tx, and you have your remote input.

We've been using, believe it or not, Motorola HT-90's as link rx's. 
Recovered audio is great. They seem to be reasonably tight, but our 
links are all close together, and we have a bandpass cavity in front of 
the rx multicoupler. Without the cavity, they might get trashed a bit.

Frankly, using wide-band synthesized radios for links seems like a bit 
of a waste. Especially something like a Phoenix SX that will cover a 
wide range of freqs. Or a made-for-ham rig.
