Hello Group,

Yes, I was a Tech Plus for around thirty years. I had no real interest in
HF, I like building and modifying radios into repeaters. I worked in the
Two-Way and paging industry for 35 years and now own and operate (maybe it
operates me) my own Two-Way radio sales and service shop. I don't have a
lot of customers but I make a living, well sort of.

I finally upgraded to Extra about three years ago when they changed the
rules and I now have a Icom 706 and a screwdriver that I had in my old
truck. I have not had the time to install it in the new one yet. The only
time I talked on it was when I was on long road trips by myself or when I
was in town I would use it to listen to other repeaters along with my Icom
IC-2800. I miss the good old full duplex mobile 100 watt Micor days! Just
not enough room for channel elements! At one time I had the Micor and a 110
watt Mocom 70 VHF Low Band on 35.92 MHz radio in my 72 Vega that I hot
rodded with a 78 Pontiac Sunbird engine, Varoom Varoom! ;>)

Just because someone is a Tech does not mean they are dumb by any means, let
them open their mouth and then decide.

Paul

It's sad they believe that Techs are going to be the downfall of ham radio.
They'll probably never realize that it's attitudes like their's that turn
people away.
