This is fascinating stuff, but it depends on the integrity of the computer to maintain a connection... if it dies so goes the VOiP link.... don't trust hard drives or Windoze much. (that's why IRLP uses Linux)  
 
I have seen cool el-cheapo little black hardware boxes which....
 
Have an IP addressable web configuration page
Radio/phone interface in/out full duplex... UDP to LAN hub/router... no computer needed....  Crash proof finds host IP address on reboot... and reconnects.  UDP for communication... IP dynamic or fixed is Nat and is configurable.
 
What are those little black boxes?
