One thing I have seen some people do mistakenly is assume that the +/-5KHz deviation spec is for voice audio. It is TOTAL deviation. You should be staying under, really, 4.7-4.8 for ALL audio, WITH CTCSS running...just checking... That said, I remember hearing on a list that the ratio is fixed. Chances are, if you are getting 900 KHz of PL, your voice deviation is too high too.
