Being a ham you have the basics , dc power etc... even epoxy will flake  but 
may be a cheaper in the short term  , as for anodising I took my last lot to 
the local plater and had a couple of car bumpers done for a reasonable price so 
I will stand correction but if that service is available it should be 
affordable for a professional finish ?
 I had a whole Heathkit amp done years ago and it looked quite replenent in 
bright blue .

I did a quick Google search and wouldn't say it can be 
done "cheaply," but, yes, it can be done at home. But maybe I just hit on a 
site 
that made it appear expensive.
