I have been dealing with Virtual PC for a number of years now and I am
looking for a more elegant way of dealing with backups for it. The problem
is that Retrospect sees the file as having been changed anytime anything
in it has changed. Therefore, Retrospect is trying to back up a 1 gig file
every night. This is a huge problem for storage.

What I have been doing:
I have setup the virtual pc folder (which contains the one huge file known
as the c drive to the pc world) as a separate subvolume. I then have one
script that backs up everything BUT the virtual pc folder and a different
script that runs once a month to backup just the subvolume.

The problem is that I only have one backup per month per user.

Ideas kicked around:
Installing retrospect client inside windows (the problem is making sure
that virtual pc is running when backups occur - also since most users
shutdown at night - not very practical)

Applescript to open file as mounted hard drive before backup (problem here
is the shutdown at night - assuming I could figure out how to write the
applescript - would this actually work? I am not sure)

Does anyone else have any suggestions? Is anyone else out there trying to
deal with this?

Dantz: is there a fix for this coming?
