If you are in graphical mode you need to do <ctrl><alt><f3> to get out
of graphical mode and into tty mode. In this case you will goto tty3.

>From there you can switch to the other tty's by doing <alt><fx> where x is the
tty you want to switch to. tty2 is a shell tty3 is some of the logs tty4 and 5
also have other logging output on them. tty7 returns you to graphical mode and
tty1 is text mode if you are using that. I am doing this from memory but you 
should have the general idea.

I suspect the info you are loking for will be on tty3 though.
