Hi , Still yet I have been using PowerPath. Trying to test the communication to storage (DMX3)
using Multipath. Here are few details :
OS : Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 4)
kernel : 2.6.9-42.0.8.ELsmp (32 bit)
device-mappter/ : device-mapper-1.02.07-4.0.RHEL4
multipath device-mapper-multipath-0.4.5-31.el4_7.1
As you know I just started with multipath, so the configuration I did , it
is very basic.
Here are few questions I have:
1. How to get the device-id like PowerPath in multipath
configuration ?
I am showing here for one LUN which is configured with
PowerPath
Pseudo name=emcpowera
Symmetrix ID=000190102942
Logical device ID=1A15
state=alive; policy=SymmOpt; priority=0; queued-IOs=0

### HW Path I/O Paths Interf. Mode State
Q-IOs Errors
==============================================================================
0 qla2xxx sdc FA 7bA active alive
0 0
1 qla2xxx sdg FA 10bA active alive
0 0
The server I am using, it is booted on SAN on sdc, the /boot
device is on /dev/sdc
2. why i am not getting all paths when executing 'multipath -ll'
?
Here is the display in multipath:
[r...@server ~]# multipath -ll
mpath1 (360060480000190102942533031413131)
[size=101 GB][features="0"][hwhandler="0"]
\_ round-robin 0 [active]
\_ 0:0:0:88 sdb 8:16 [active][ready]
\_ 1:0:0:88 sdf 8:80 [active][ready]
mpath0 (360060480000190102942533030303830)
[size=2 MB][features="0"][hwhandler="0"]
\_ round-robin 0 [active]
\_ 0:0:0:0 sda 8:0 [active][ready]
\_ 1:0:0:0 sde 8:64 [active][ready]
mpath3 (360060480000190102942533031413139)
[size=101 GB][features="0"][hwhandler="0"]
\_ round-robin 0 [active]
\_ 0:0:0:101 sdd 8:48 [active][ready]
\_ 1:0:0:101 sdh 8:112 [active][ready]
In the above multipath display , the paths sdc/sdg is not
visible on which
the server is booted.
If i execute 'multipath -v3' , I am getting all paths though.
3. In the multipath display , how can I configure the
logical-device id ?
In Powermt display ( mentioned in 1) 1A15 logical device id
is using the
paths sdc and sdg. And we do all the work based on the
logical device id.
In case of shared disk, logical divice id has the main role,
If I need the logical device id in multipath , what
configuration I need to do?
I tried to use 'alias' in multipath to assign the logical
deive id , but it
seems it did not work ...
I am attaching herewith the multipath configuraiton file.
Thanks in advance .
