My method was simple: 1. backup the OS. 2. Make a note of your LVM setup 3. Reinstall the 64 bit OS fresh onto the same LV's as the 32 bit was originally on. And the old LV's used by any applications can be left untouched so they're still there when the new OS boots. 4. Restore important OS files. That's pretty much it.
