If the hardware vendor is saying 5.5 and above, why are you surprised
that an earlier version is not working?

If HP says 5.5 or newer, you need to install 5.5 or newer.

If you look at e.g.
http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5/html-single/5.5_Release_Notes/index.html
you'll see that we enabled support in 5.5 for Boxboro-EX and Boxboro-MC,
we added support for a bunch of newer network cards, storage devices, etc.

It should not surprise you that it's not working on newer hardware.
