What I done was use the redhat package manager to remove the pre-install version of sqlite. Since I was in a hurry I ignored the warnings that evidently said it was going to remove all programs that depended on this, which include RPM and YUM; which in turn made it almost impossible to install anything else.
Asking about backups is not in bad taste. This is a "SUPPORT" system so I don't usually back this one up, but me killing it usually isn't a big deal except the organization wants to use it tomorrow for some important testing. What I was working on when this happened was trying to develop the backup routines that I can apply to our "LIVE" server before something real bad happens to it. Server Down! YUM and RPM gone. I have to ask - what command did you run to break it like this? The answer will help decide the best way to repair it, if possible. I guess asking about backups would be in bad taste?
