What is interesting about this debate is that those who talk in slogans always accuse others of doing so. They also generally do so when trying to deny the existence of an uncomfortable fact. I am merely quoting what the Arab inhabitants of the Palestine and then Israel and the occupied territories have said ever since the concept of Israel came into being. I suppose the recent Hamas refusal to call off its terror campiagn in response to the Israeli indications that it wished to re-open dialogue with the PLO on the death of Arafat is also not a relevant issue here and if it is referred to will be ignored or described as either rhetoric or a "slogan". If one chooses to ignore fact and reality one cannot expect to arrive at a real solution.
And, if it is indeed a slogan, it is the slogan (or theme of the slogan) of the hardliner parties and people) who want to see the Jews and Israel disappear. And, on analysis, it is another way of expressing such slogans as "death to Israel" - slogans which belong in the dark ages. But the Arabs who use it do not regard it as a slogan - it is an actual aim. If you have any difficulty with it take it up with those who spout it and practise it - not thoes who have the intellectual honesty to recognize that it exists.
