Monday, October 19, 2009 Interesting Items 10/19 – Howdy all, a few Interesting Items for your information. Enjoy – In this issue: 1. Rush 2. Payback 3. ANWR 4. Israelis 5. Reform School 6. Governors 1. Rush. The big talk show news last week was Rush Limbaugh’s participation in a joint ownership group bid to purchase the St. Louis Rams. News of his participation hit the newswires a week and a half ago. The expected firestorm ensued, and eventually the NFL Commissioner, Colts owner Jim Irsay, and the new NFLPA leadership currently headed up by an Obama supporter, weighed in an effort to keep Rush Limbaugh from owning a part of an NFL football franchise. Limbaugh, who was asked to join the proposed ownership group, was kicked out of the group Wednesday. He hit the airways Thursday as his program started with the full story – and a sorry story it is – of the effort by the racialists, the leftist sportswriters, the Justice Brothers (so-called Reverends Sharpton and Jackson), and even the Obama WH to keep him out of the NFL. Do I think that all of this was a Limbaugh setup? No I don’t. I think he is a long time NFL fan who, like I do, loves the game. Unfortunately, the NFL has apparently succumbed to the call of the PC mob, and in doing so, has trashed its credibility with tens of millions of fans nationwide. Folks, this is Obama’s America, where racist quotations can be manufactured out of thin air, disseminated nationwide by the State Run Media in a paroxysm of anti-conservative falsehood and hatred. This is the future all you Obama voters have brought us. Enjoy it, as it is going to be around for a while. But don’t be a bit surprised if there is a reaction opposite to and equal to the nastiness of the left. And I will embrace that reaction. Hell, I intend on doing everything humanly possible to make it happen. For his part, Limbaugh is going to release all the details of the festivities. He is going to remind all his listeners of the background of everyone involved – outing reporters, the Justice Brothers, and NFL owners who have gone after him during the festivities. This is not over by a long shot. 2. Payback. Monday, PriceWaterhouse released an audit of the Baucus vaporware version of ObamaCare and blew a hole in the claims of democrats in the senate and the Obama administration about the legislation. Basically, once passed, the new taxes on existing health care plans will instantly go into effect. Individuals will see new taxes based on the coverage level of their existing insurance plans to the tune of a minimum of $4,000/year per family. On the other hand ObamaCare goes into effect in 2013, after Obama’s reelection, when he can no longer get touched by the voters. The PriceWaterhouse study was chartered by the private health care insurance industry, and released after they collectively determined that playing along with Obama and congress was no longer in their best interest. Additionally, the audit noted that the Baucus legislation would move the bar downward sufficiently so that literally everything would be classified as a “Cadillac” health care insurance plan and be subject to new excise taxation. The report was met with all the expected cries of outrage from the State Run Media and leftists in congress and the WH. For their trouble, the insurance industry has now been targeted by the State Controlled Media, and congress, with Chucky Schumer (D, NY) in a congressional hearing Wednesday intended to remove the anti-trust exemption for private health care insurers. Thuggery, thy name is democrat. How long will we put up with this sort of garbage? 3. ANWR. Our local fishwrapper ran their weekly pro-Copenhagen, pro manmade global warming propaganda story last week. This time around, the subject was the “mysteriously” dwindling numbers of caribou in the Arctic – primarily in Canada and Siberia. The claim that caribou numbers are down and nobody apparently knows why was the basis for the AP story. The tenor of the story was that manmade global warming (what a surprise) was leading to the “remarkable” decrease in the numbers of caribou in the cold, frozen North. Interesting theory, that. The story even went on to note freezing rain keeping lichen out of the eating range of caribou in August. Given that August is the warmest month in the Arctic, how can freezing rain and frozen lichen possibly be the result of manmade global warming? I would like to posit another viewpoint. Perhaps the problem with falling caribou populations is due to colder weather rather than warmer weather. We know for a fact that the large migrating caribou herds on the Alaskan North Slope have tripled over the years due to the construction and operation of the Prudhoe Bay oil fields. The reason for that tripling is that with construction of warm, vertical windbreaks, the region is warmer in the winter, thereby increasing winter survivability of the caribou. There is not a lot of construction in Siberia, and the locals hunt and kill caribou for food with an unknown and probably nonexistent game management structure. I would guess that those numbers most certainly would decrease over time in recent years. And if the Canadian herds are decreasing, given the existence of the Mackenzie River Delta fields in the Yukon, weather could very well be a problem. The creation of a new nation out of the former Northwest Territories in Canada may also be a cause. If you want to decrease caribou herd numbers, I can think of no better way than to kill more of them than can be replaced while the overall winters get colder, longer and harsher. 4. Israelis. Daffydd writing in Big Lizards, Weds described the latest assault on Israeli sovereignty in European courts. This involves Palestinian and Hezbollah members going to European and the International Criminal Court to arrest and prosecute Israeli government officials for violating the Geneva Conventions during their prosecution of self defense operations in Gaza and Lebanon over the last several years. The legal theory is that there is a “universal jurisdiction” clause in the Conventions that allow any signatory to exercise local jurisdiction. Essentially the Islamist aggressors in both conflicts are using the law to go after the leadership of the nation that they have been brutally and heartlessly attacking for decades on humanitarian grounds, removing the right of self defense from Israel. Of course, nobody would ever touch one of the leadership of the IslamoFascist vermin perpetrating these outrages. But you can always find a sufficiently leftist judge that is ready, willing and able prosecute those that would defend themselves from attack. 5. Reform School. Zero tolerance stories in the government schools hit the fan last week with a story of a six year old Cub Scout that brought a camping utensil (knife, fork and spoon combination) to school and a high school senior that had a ceremonial knife belonging to his grandfather found in his vehicle in the campus parking lot. The six year old was initially sentenced to 45 days in reform school for his “criminal act”, while the senior was initially suspended for 7 days, later cranked up to 21 days by the local school board. Both students are exemplary, conservative kids with no history of thuggery. The senior plans on going to West Point, something the School Board is doing its level best to submarine. Neither kid was waving these things in anyone’s face, making any threat, or doing anything outrageous. Yet the local schools hid behind the notion of zero tolerance and used it as a tool and an excuse to destroy the lives and crush the future aspirations of their best students. Damned shame that they don’t do this sort of thing to their known gang bangers. Zero tolerance has long been an excuse for public educators to hurt those that want to be there while ignoring the real thugs in their midst. It has been a way to hide behind process and escape the notion of making any constructive or reasoned decisions. In some ways zero tolerance is yet another vehicle for the destruction of public education, as parents and those of us who fund the public schools will no longer tolerate their mindless, evil, mechanistic policies. And that end cannot come soon enough. 6. Governors. There are two governorships up for election in November – NJ and VA. NJ was last a red state in the Nixon – Reagan years. Since then, it has turned into a democrat, leftist, union controlled, corrupt cesspool, where the democrats have been in charge of everything, and no small number of elected Republicans have gone along with the corruption. Democrats have all but destroyed the economy of the state trough excessive regulation and taxation, played the race card, turned out the ACORN voters, and had a free run of it all. The current governor John Corzine, former US senator and Wall Street multi millionaire leftist, has run the state further into the ground. He is in a reasonably close race with a Republican, who is now marginally ahead in the polls. Corzine, state and national democrats have thrown everything at the Republican except the kitchen sink, most recently with ads accusing him of not paying his taxes and being overweight. Should NJ go Republican, the Obamas and Blue Dog democrats are in a heap of trouble. Speaking of Blue Dogs, the second race is in VA, where the Republican candidate is doing quite nicely, and currently holds a lead. He is making this race a referendum on Obama and the Blue Dogs, using the democrat’s past support of Obama and his policies as a campaign vehicle. Democrats went after the Republican by finding and making a campaign issue out of a fiery 20-year old conservative thesis he wrote in college, attempting to make the point that he still believes everything written at the time, even worse. That attack cut his lead in half. Interestingly enough, the democrat has not invited any congressional or Obama supporting democrat into the state to campaign for him and the Republican has pointedly refused to invite Governor Palin to do the same thing. Conservatives stand to pick up both seats. Expect the democrats to throw everything into the defeat of these two Republicans that they can throw, as these results are expected to scare the Blue Dog congressional democrats – who are already morts – into not backing any of Obama’s legislative priorities from now through January 2011.
