1.
Begich. Our Boy Senator made his yearly address to the Alaska Legislature
Monday. In it, he fired the first rounds in defense of the seat he and
his buds in the (In)Justice Department helped steal from Ted Stevens in
2008. Begich called for full funding support of education (suck up to the
kiddies and their single female parents), railed against what he called efforts
to put obstacles in the way of natives to vote (photo IDs), and called on the
state government to quit picking fights with the feds at every turn.
Instead, Begich wants the state to work with the Obama administration on
environmental, conservation, endangered species, and resource development
issues. Damned difficult to work with a group of people who are hell-bent
on turning this state into a park or wilderness area. In his speech,
Begich demonstrated quite clearly that he has forgotten what his job in
Washington DC really is. It is not to represent the Obama administration,
the federal bureaucracy, environmentalists, unions or his majority of democrats
in the US Senate to Alaska. Rather, it is to represent the interests of
Alaska and its citizens in DC. This alone demonstrates that he is neither
qualified nor capable of doing what he was elected to do. Bringing up
voting problems in the Bush is typical racist crap out of the democrats –
fan the flames of racism, divide one Alaskan against another and coast to
victory on the votes of the designated victims who have been sufficiently
terrified so that they all turn out to vote. For the record, Alaska
natives turned out in huge numbers in 2008 to elect this democrat, blithely
tossing aside Ted Stevens and everything he did for them for 40 years in the
senate. In 2010, Alaska natives turned out in droves, driven by the money
of the regional corporations, to win a write-in election for Lisa
Murkowski. There is a photo ID Bill making its way through the Alaska
legislature that those that traffic in election fraud (democrats) oppose.
Whoever ends up running against Begich next year needs to figure out a way to
shut down the money machine of the regional corporations that will align
against him or her in support of the democrat. One way would be to work
with the dissident factions of the native corporations. They exist
particularly at the village corporation levels. For example, the Bristol
Bay Native Corporation, appears to have received a large amount of money from
an undisclosed source and has been running a series of ads intended to pump up
their credibility in the Pebble Mine fight. They have come out strongly
in opposition to the mine. A number of local village corporations
disagree, as the mine will mean thousands of jobs for their unemployed
membership. Bristol Bay is not the only native corporation with this
internal problem. This disagreement can be exploited to defeat Begich
next year or at least split the money machine Begich intends to use to fuel his
reelection. Finally, our Boy Senator co-sponsored his first piece gun
control legislation, introducing a Bill that will prohibit those with mental
problems from owning or using firearms. This opens a real can of worms,
as who gets to decide what is a mental problem? Remember that the old
Soviet Union was busily putting dissidents into the Gulags using the excuse
that they were mentally ill. Michael Savage has long referred to
liberalism as a mental disorder. I am sure the left views conservatives
the same way. Begich is going to end up shooting himself in the foot with
this one.
2.
Colorado. Democrats control the legislature and governorship in Colorado.
They are shoving seven anti-gun Bills through the system. These comprise
every leftist’s wet dream of disarming the general populace. They
include but are not limited to the following:
* All transfers require a background check. Transfers include loan of
a weapon or letting them use your gun at a range
* Background check fees are paid by the applicant. They start at $10
but democrats are already talking about jacking it up to $150 or higher if
transfers are not stopped.
* Assault weapons are defined as anything that can be modified to hold
over 15 rounds or over 7 rounds as a rifle. This includes all semi-auto
pistols and pump action shotguns. Assault weapons will be illegal.
* Magazines over the new limits are grandfathered. But when challenged
by law enforcement on its legality, you have to instantly produce the sales
slip or they can confiscate the magazine.
* Manufacture of new magazines over the new limits is illegal. This
puts Magpul out of business in Colorado.
* Liability has been modified to include all past owners and everyone
in the supply chain as lawsuit targets should the weapon be used in a crime.
* Concealed carry on college campus, legal for over a decade is
specifically revoked.
(h/t
to Subotai Bahdur, commenter at the Belmont Club for putting this list
together.) The legislation is universally opposed by all Colorado
Sheriffs, the highest elected officials in most of the state at the county
level. It is supported by the Police Chiefs, who are hired and work for
various mayors and city councils. The democrats in the legislature are
not listening to any opposition, opting to cram this down, not unlike what was
done with ObamaCare in DC. This is what happens when a formerly red state
turns blue. It is the logical fallout of the Colorado Project, where a
few very rich gay rights advocates set up a political organization that used
gay rights as a wedge issue to turn over a government. Expect to see it
soon in a state near you.
3.
BLM. What would expect a corporation that had drilled hundreds of
test wells in one of the more inaccessible parts of North America over the
course of the last century to do when the State of Alaska demands they be
capped and cleaned up to current requirements? You would expect local
environmentalists to declare Holy Jihad on the corporation, and start reading
story after story about their malfeasance and lack of environmental
sensitivity. What happens when that entity is not a for profit
corporation, an evil oil company, but instead part of the Obama administration;
the Bureau of Land Management (BLM)? Well, the BLM has another set of
tools to use (other than stealing more of our tax dollars). One of those
tools is to designate some to be determined number of the leaking wells as
historic preservation sites, so that they are protected by law from being
cleaned up to current environmental standards. The State of Alaska, the
Alaska congressional delegation (with the exception of Mark Begich) and more
recently, the Alaska Legislature have all been beating the BLM about the head
and shoulders over failure to clean up legacy wells. For its part, the
BLM denied that it was considering such a thing, and even if it designated some
number of open wells as historic preservation sites, it would never keep them
from fulfilling their responsibilities to the environment. Yeah, right.
4.
Military. It appears that the Obama administration has decided to make
the budget cuts as painful on the military as humanly possible. Their
actions have ranged from petty to dangerous. On the dangerous end, there
was a photo making the rounds last week of five carriers lined up in a row
docked at Norfolk – a hugely tempting target. You NEVER do this if
you want to keep those valuable weapons around for an extended period of
time. DoD announced they would not be deploying the USS Abraham Lincoln
to the Persian Gulf because they could not afford to refuel it. In the
old days, a president would launch the fleet and dare congress not to fund
them. Not this one. The cuts went to the personal level, with a lady
identifying herself as a military wife calling Limbaugh late last week
complaining that the on-base TRICARE referral office had been shut down until
further notice. She had just been diagnosed with something dangerous, her
husband was deployed to the Sandbox, and she had nowhere to go. The way
TRICARE works is that you have to be referred to an off-base doctor by the
TRICARE people for care. If you don’t do the paperwork drill for
referral, you end up paying for the treatment / care out of pocket –
difficult to impossible for the enlisted folks. And TRICARE covers all
medical care for military spouses and children. In doing this, the Obama
administration has essentially shut off health care for military families – all
in the name of the sequester. Limbaugh took her number.
Hopefully someone stepped up and answered the call. Note that it takes a
couple months to furlough a federal worker, which means that closing this
office and laying off all the people there was planned in January at the
latest.
This government is at war with its military. And this will not end well.

"If
ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than
the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your
counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your
chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our
countrymen."
