Actually, there is no way to stop it unless you re-design the rio's hardware
to dis-allow it. The only way other companies stop downloading is by
encrypting it (the RCA player does this) but then everything has to be
re-encoded, will not support variable bitrates (or anything other than 4
standard bitrates) and generally makes a crappy product.

So in essence, no, it cannot be done unless you completely re-design the rio
or try and make the code that exists for the rio under linux disappear
through lawsuits like that was tried against diamond when the rio first
appeared (they lost in a big way, so I dont reccomend throwing money away in
lawsuits). NOTE: trying to sue software out of existance will make it spread
faster than anything. Look at DeCSS - it's illegal and there are more
copies out there now then before, people have copies of DeCSS that don't
even have a clue what it is.) Again, no. you have absolutely no chance in
making a diamond rio, mpman, or any other mp3 player device from not copying
your songs and giving them to others.

Although I fail to see the need for blocking the transfers, it's your desire
anyways. I would just embrace it like audio tape, because it's not going
away.

Side note: Anyone know if the rio-500 is hardware or software decoding? It
would be neat to make it play ogg files.
