That link describes how one can use CRC as an error detection
algorithm. Maybe you are missing the point that it is only when you
embed the checksum in the data stream can that it be used for error
detection.

However, an audio CD does *not* embed a checksum of the audio data.
This is why you would have to get the checksum from the manufacturer of
the CD.

At the risk of repeating myself, the audio output stream has no
embedded CRC. An audio CD uses CIRC (not CRC) internally, which is
essentially a checksum used for error detection and correction. This is
the key point. The firmware inside the CDROM will know about the error,
but it doesn't necessarily tell you about it.

I am repeating myself again: Because different ripping programs produce
files with different checksums. I trust EAC more than the others,
because the AccurateRip plugin tells me that other people have the same
checksum.
