I am new to ripping, encoding, tagging etc. I have ripped only 1 CD onto
my dedicated music D drive. D is a mirrored copy of the E drive via
RAID. I had a technician do that for me. I use Easy CD-DA Extractor
rather than EAC for ripping and encoding. It is more user-friendly.
Today, I tried to play that 1 flac file via my new, wireless SB2. When
I did so, I got an error on the SB2 saying "can't open file for" and it
showed the title of that only CD. Slimserver shows all the tracks,
playing time etc for that 1 CD. I called Slim Devices tech support and
he told me that it was likely an error in the file structure. I
described how Easy CD-DA files are shown....SB2 tech support said the
use of < > (chevrons?) is unusual and could be causing a problem. The
Easy CD file path/description differs from how Slim Devices shows those
files. Is there a standard way to do this? If I make up a file
description using ( { ,,brackets or colons etc and use that
consistently, would that be OK? I recall EAC had a very particular way
of doing that which I found difficult. Any comments, suggestions or
references to a site where I can find a “primer” or “how to” manual so
I can understand all this file path/structure stuff would be
appreciated. I could not find this discussed in the Easy CD-DA help
manual or in the Slim Devices forum. Also, if I want to use Media
Monkey or Tag and Rename in the future, I presume I'll need a standard
file structure that they can read.
