The vapor has condensed, I hope.  Here are two Perl scripts. 
Documentation is in the files themselves.  As I don't have a website
and they are short, plain text files, I'm just attaching them here.  It
looks like I will have to add ".txt" to satisfy the forum software; they
should be ".pl" .

I'd be glad to hear if you find them useful; if you would find them
(more) useful if only ...; if they don't work; if they do work ...

Zten, it sounds like you might use this by creating your playlists
however you like, text-editing them to add #WORK= comments, and then
just using shuffleworks to permute them.  Ceejay, given how you have
defined Albums, you should be ready to fly by running makeworks to make
a database and then shuffleworks to sample it.  Somebody, I hope, will
want to explore the possibilities of adding WORK tags with your
favorite tag editor.
