Today I used Tag & Rename to export my tags in tab-delimited format. I then manipulated the data in Excel and printed it in Word (which has more flexible formatting).
The hassle was manipulating it in Excel: 1) Tag & Rename exports every track, even if I want just the albums. So I had to delete all but one record for each album/artist pair. 2) Tag & Rename can't indicate compilations in its export, so I had to search for those (look for many artists with the same album name and make sure it's really a single album) and then reduce these to a single record with the artist changed to "-". 3) Then I sorted by genre, artist, and album (in that order). 4) For multiple albums by the same artist, I removed all but the first mention of the artist to make the list look cleaner. 5) Then I did miscellaneous formatting in Word, (2 columns, genre headings, etc.) to make it pretty. This wasn't so awful, but it would be a pain to do, say, once a month. I'd probably rather just manually enter new CDs -- ick! I have been unable to find any program (including SlimServer plugins, iTunes, and others) that produce anything closer to what I want. Does anyone else? I know there are many conceivable reports that users could want, but the one I did -- albums only, grouped by genre, then artist (blank for compilations), then album -- seems to be the most useful. It would be awesome if some program would do it easily. -- bruce ------------------------------------------------------------------------ bruce's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2955 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22169 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
