It's a purely personal opinion but I reckon that after a lot of listening tests MP3 doesn't give a real impression of depth to the stereo image even at 320k rate.
Also I tried taking a lively orchestral piece and encoding it to MP3, ogg, pm4/AAC and Flac and then playing it back into a spectrum analyser. MP3 appeared to suffer from the the most visable compression in the mid range followed by AAC. Flac and ogg appeared to be clean. Followed this up with a few listening tests and to my ears when the orchestral passgaes get load the woodwind instruments especially the flutes suddenly sound harsh. This doesn't appear to happen with ogg and as you would expect flac is clean. I tend to use Flac normally but if the recording is very old or poor quality then I use Ogg 256k Q=8. I have about 1500 CD's loaded at the moment and using just under 300 GB which is a reasonable price to pay. I think your Terrabyte might be a bit of an over calculation. -- MrStan ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MrStan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1771 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=21739 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
