Whoa, yeah, if you want fast rips than EAC with damaged discs is *not* the way to go. I've had some really beaten-up discs take 24 hours or more. Also EAC is not a panacea. It can recover from minor errors but with major errors caused by disc surface defects, it re-reads the sector 82 times then it gives up and declares an error. 82 times sounds like a lot but if you have a severe enough defect you're guaranteed to go through them and get errors. The good news is that 95% of the time these errors are inaudible. I'd say 4% of the time there's a slight click in one channel and 1% of the time there's a severe dropout or skip - severe enough to warrant the hassle of trying to repair the disc with a CD scratch repair kit (which does work, BTW, but which requires a lot of elbow grease!) > > I've just had a thought, is there any lossless format which iTunes can > convert to Apple Lossless? If you were to do this from EAC you'd need an AAC command-line encoder. I'm not sure if mov123 (QuickTime) can act as a command-line encoder. I think it might because that's the program SlimServer uses to play back AAC. You could do it from within EAC if you found command-line arguments for mov123. If not, you'd rip to .WAV and let iTunes do it, provided it can convert from .WAV. -- Mark Lanctot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mark Lanctot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22679 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
