but then sell the original, it invalides the legitimacy of the archive.


Hmm, don't know the answer to that.

The way I look at it now that I've ripped all my music is that the
original CDs are my backup.  If anything happens to the hard drive,
then I can recreate it from source.  I am in the process of putting all
the discs and booklets in folders which are the 240 disc size that store
4 discs per page (side).  CDs go in 2 of the pockets and their
accompanying booklets go in the other 2.  The empty jewel cases are
then boxes up and stored away.  I find this way gives me the best
compromise between compactness and weight.  It is possible to find
folders that hold 800 discs but fully loaded would weigh in exess of
25lbs!

An alternative would be to just store the booklets away in some kind of
folder and put the discs in cakeboxes (the tubs you get CDRs in).
