>From CatBus:
"HOWEVER, there simply is no equivalent to EAC on Linux at the moment,
as far as "perfect rips" are concerned."

Not yet, anyway. About a month ago, I saw a thread on the English EAC
forum regarding EAC on other platforms. Andre Wiethoff said he was
working on porting EAC to Linux and Mac, Unfortunately, he said not to
look for it on has site any time this year. Apparently, he is recoding
it from the ground up (in C++, I believe) which is a lot of work.

I'm also sorry to say that another poster on that thread expressed
extreme skepticism regarding EAC through Wine. He made the point that
what makes EAC so superior is that Andre used iocntl commands that went
way "under the hood" in terms of specificity and complexity. This
poster was concerned that although it may function under Wine, the very
fine read commands that EAC specifies would be lost in translation, so
to speak.

I would love to hear Dougal's opinion about this and any sonic
comparisons between tracks ripped with EAC/Windoze and EAC/Wine. EAC
is the one app that keeps me from being MSFree.

Thanks and Happy Squeezing!
