Strictly speaking, is it correct to have the "Fill up missing samples with silence" setting turned on?
I'm not sure that I fully understand all the related details of CD drive offsets etc. but it sounds a little to me like enabling that setting is a bit of a "hack" to force compliance with Accurip (i.e. ensure the size of the extracted file meets that held in the Accurip database)? To elaborate, say, for example, a CD drive cannot overread on the lead-out (as seems to be the case with my CD drive) and it cannot extract/read the last few samples on the final track, then I don't understand the value in padding out the extracted track with blank information. As far as playing back the WAV file from the hard disk is concerned, having the silence makes no musical difference. And as regards using the WAV file to recreate a "copy" CD audio track, the "copy" would not be accurate, as it will have the "silence" data where the original would have had something different. Any thoughts? As you can perhaps tell, I'm a bit confused by all of this.
