I found that this caused encoding aborts with files that weren't
16/44.1 and also caused all tests ('flac -t') to fail.

I presume this was because the supporting libraries in Ubuntu are all
matched to the encoder version and Josh warned about this.

Encoding of 16/44.1 files did work perfectly for me though, as did
decoding them.
