I don't have a problem at all ripping in iTunes to Apple Lossless. I love the way iTunes handles tagging, keeping it very simple. Also, if you have an iPod, iTunes will easily re-encode your ALAC (lossless) files to AAC or MP3 to play on the iPod. Lossless will play on the pod, but your battery life will suffer due to drive access.
