Are you sure this is actually 24bit LPCM? I tried ripping the PCM data
from a Video DVD (Roger Waters - In The Flesh) and on close inspection
it turned out that the audio data is 20 bit rather than 24 bit. What's
more, after ripping, the data was packed into 5 bytes per stereo
sample, and playing it resulted in just the sort of hiss you describe.

If you can report back on the exact hexadecimal values in the WAV file
header (usually the first 44 bytes of the file), we'd be able to tell
exactly what format it's really in.
