IMHO the "right" number of different genres will depend massively on
(1) a personal preference for the number of genres you think is
manageable in a list and (2) the particular mix of music you have.

Here's my list for classical music (I have about as many covering
non-classical). All have a "classical" tag, then whatever else I feel
like.

Choral
Classical
Classicalperiod
Concerto
Dances
Overture
Piano
Romantic
Strings
Symphony
