It's official gentlemen - this is a bug! SqueezeCenter wrongly recognizes 48khz iTunes Plus tracks as 44.1khz tracks and down samples them, causing the wacky fast speed playback thingy. Anoop opened up a bug report, so hopefully this will be fixed in a nightly release (or at least the next point release doesn't take too long)!
