That's so I can use regular file based tools & scripting etc. So I'd have to have the notion of disc number somewhere - I could put it in the track number (e.g. "1-4") but I just prefer it at the directory level. It also makes sense to me that the disc is the "atomic item" in a way - if I need to rerip a CD because of a problem I just delete the dir and rerip the disc. A little more foolproof than deleting some subset of files from the dir. Finally, almost all of the multi disc albums I have are mixed DJ sets where the disc really is a useful unit - the music starts and 74 mins later stops, with no breaks. Obviously track becomes somewhat less meaningful here, but disc becomes very significant.
