The multi disc tag is useful for a large CD set, as it ollows you to pick jut the one disc you might want to listen to, rather than load an entire set into the playlist, and then you have to jump to the part you wish to listen to.
Of course some CD sets also have different names for each of the discs in a Multi set! I must admit to using it to allow me to break up CD's that have Mono and Stereo mixes on the same disc, I don't want to listen in Mono then Stereo the entire CD, so I just make it 2 CD's, and so I can pick either Mono or Stereo.
