It should be more like 3 times for PCM. twice for the 88.2, and 1.5 for
the 24 bit vs 16 bit.

Flac compresses the files, and I would not expect more than a 50%
increase for typical music.

That could be as simple as the cartridge mistracking.

Even with a perfect cartridge, (ha!) you must stage the gain properly.
