WMA is not a format. It is more properly a container for formats. There are lossy WMA files, and lossless WMA files. There are probably a lot more lossy WMA files, but that has more to do with preferences and marketing than the technology. M4A is also a container, specifically for MPEG-4 As Wikipedia says: "Almost any kind of data can be embedded in MPEG-4 Part 14 files " APE files are usually Monkey's Audio files, and is usually (always?) lossless. Lossless is lossless.
