Personally, I number them 101-### for disc 1, 201-### for disc 2 and so on--only in file names, though, not track number tags. Best of both worlds IMO. You can still tell from the file names how the discs were split. I have never used a compilation tag--ever--so I'm always puzzled when I see it discussed here.
