Using multiple ALBUMARTIST variations (which are -not- only "ALBUMARTIST" and "ALBUM ARTIST" because we have to consider a lot more file types like M4A, AAC, WMA, … internally, who use other tags) that have -different content- will always give unpredictable results. -Don’t do it. Period.-
With the current implementation, plus taggers sometimes changing the internal (=saved) sequence of tags, there -cannot- be a reliable schema for this. Even if we would start "prefering one over the other", surely part of the user base would complain and have it the other way round. Plus, some file formats use entirely different tags. So the only good recommendation I have is: Either use -just *one* of them-, or if really needed, -always be sure that both have the same content-. SC has always tried to be kind of a "Swiss Army Knife" in Music Management, and made a very good job of it. Unfortunately, there will never be a perfect "one-fits-all" solution, due to the endless possibilities of tagging, ambiguity of standards, new "de-facto standards" coming up, user wishes, and data entry error. If consequently adhering to some "official" plus some "agreed-on" and/or "personal" standards, SC can still come close to the 98% wanted, I think.
