well, in the context of this thread, i was trying to answer your assertion that winamp was broken, i assumed thats [TPE2 interpretation] was what you were talking about, i didn't know at that time u misunderstood the previous thread. winamp came up to illustrate the TPE2 issue. as to your final point, winamp doesn't screw up comps at all... i don't need winamp to know anything is a comp... why would i? i do what most people in mainstream apps do, i use TPE2/album artist to organize my collection, an action that cd lookups reinforce, as well as the apps own medi library. at some point i'll post my mp3tag export online so you can follow my naming scheme. i can tell almost 100% of the time from a glance at the string used in the tag if something is a comp or not. SC is different, b/c of the way it works, esp with plugins. SC badly wants to know if things are a comp or not. now, in casual use, i don't need SC to know anything is a comp, and indeed since all my files have TPE2 tags and i use NO comp tags of any kind, SC doesn't know anything is a comp. (unfortunately, my artist list is ONLY made up of album artists as a result, i can't easily make other lists without some time consuming and largely otherwise unnecessary action) now, i could use mp3tag to set Comp=1 but i don't b/c i don't want ALL comps filed under "Various Artists" or any ONE "special" category, (not just in SC, but other apps like itunes, i share my music). i want them sorted and placed via their TPE2 tag. (i'm not sure Comp=1 over-rides the SC sort order, but i think it does, or at least it used to, and the last thing i want to do is introduce even more tags, like specific sorting ones) there may also be other reasons besides the above i can't recall at the moment that i don't want to set comp=1 tags, besides the obvious one of it being a non-standard tag. (it is a de facto standard however) but i mean other SC related reasons i don't want to use them... the drawback for me tho is when SC has special functions, like via plugins, that depend on this knowledge. for instance, one of the 3rd party apps makes web pages of your collection via DB sql queries. but it doesn't work properly b/c it doesn't handle "my way" of tagging properly. it WOULD if it knew my VA albums were comps, but it doesn't and so it makes garbage of those albums. i'm sure there are 1000 other such examples, thats just the first one that leaps to mind. maybe i'd like to listen to just comps on SC, but how could i get a playlist of that if the DB is ignorant? i'm just hoping the new schema gives users options to allow users to tell SC everything about a given album they want SC to know, while at the same time not forcing tht info to mean ONLY ONE browsing exp is allowed. SC today is simply not flexable in this regard. -- MrSinatra www.lion-radio.org using: sb2 (my home) / sbr (parent's home) / sbc (my home) - w/sc 7.3.3b - win xp pro sp3 ie8 - 3.2ghz / 2gig ram - 1tb wd usb2 raid1 - d-link dir-655 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=61689 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
