Okay everyone, found solution to the problem. Good news: full 96/24 preservation ALAC --> FLAC. Bad news: Do it on the Mac.
Tried to convert with dbPowerAmp, foobar2000, WinAMP, iTunes. Closest I got was iTunes which was good for 96/16 to WAV (is Apple paranoid about 24-bit copy or something!?). Ended up doing it on my MacBook with XLD (X Lossless Decoder - http://tmkk.hp.infoseek.co.jp/xld/index_e.html). Full direct ALAC to FLAC. Bottom line: Unless you need lossless compression for iTunes, keep your 24-bit audio in FLAC - more universal and consistently better compression than ALAC. Hopefully a program will be available to do this in the PC world soon. -- Archimago ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Archimago's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2207 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64660 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
