"sub optimal tagging"

says you.

kinda like pornography, right? you know it when you see it? whats the
sign for eyes rolling?

and you are not an authority or standard or pgm or service of any note
or consequence, nor do you have any back up to your assertions other
than your own feelings, which frankly, aren't valid.

you are wrong phil, get over yourself. you are not the god of
tagging.

correct! so SC should handle the stuation PROPERLY. making the albums
disappear b/c of a string is STUPID and a BUG, just like when albums
don't appear b/c id3v2 artist/title/album tag info is missing when RG
tags are there with v1 tags.

*having SC NOT SHOW what it DID FIND and scan, is a BUG.*

please, "de facto" phil, "de facto." [as you so kindly pointed out]

wrong, Gracenote, and Winamp, are the FORCES BEHIND some de facto
standards, right or wrong, like it or not. they aren't the only ones,
and sometimes these big companies / products / services conflict with
each other, that isn't my concern and it shouldn't be slims.

what IS relevant here, is that slim should deal with whats going to
come down the pike and out of the marketplace as well as it possibly
can. it isn't for slim to bless this or that. it is for slim to
recognize the lay of the land. TCMP comes to mind.

the fact of the matter is, MANY apps, like winamp, WMP, and others, set
TPE2 to be album artist, (comp or not) and further set that field to say
"Various Artists" when the track is from a comp. thats b/c the services
they use, like Gracenote, AMG, and others report AA info, (which you
previously erroneously denied).

you might not personally like it phil, and hell, maybe i don't either,
but SO WHAT? WHO CARES? that doesn't change the fact that SC should
handle the situation "gracefully" for what is a huge, mammoth, part of
the marketshare.

to say that it ISN'T a bug when SC hides music it scanned just b/c of a
string it found which anyone using ANY of those apps or services is
going to have, is LUNACY in the first degree.

i didn't start anything. i posted the BUG for the previous posters to
read, which was relevant or at least FYI to their problems, and which
had ALL this "info" of yours in it already.

if you want to call a bug an enhancement request, thats your business,
but it isn't valid to do so.

users aren't "correcting their tags" they are CHANGING THEM, b/c SC
forces them to do so, (or change the default category name). as to most
users, i suppose that depends on itunes, which i don't use. but
certainly it is tens of MILLIONS of potential users, so slim can't
ignore it.

given the current direction of SC, meaning the devs want it easier and
working right out of the box, i have no doubt my view will prevail and
one way or the other, the many, many users with "Various Artists" in
their tags won't have to do a damn thing to see those files in SC, which
is as it should be.

i hope you'd at least agree with that, but i won't hold my breath.
