Provided you're using a good ripper (like EAC) you don't need to do
anything special at rip time to avoid gaps in my experience (of ripping
nearly 1000 gapless discs!). The file format matters, as only some are
capable of being played back without gaps, and the player matters as
well. If you rip to FLAC and play through a SB you'll have no gaps. If
you're still concerned, just do a few as tests.

As for cuesheets, I don't see the value to them, others do. It's a
personal choice based on a few fairly obscure arguments which you can
read elsewhere in the forum so I won't repeat them.
