best tool I've found in the windows world http://xat.com/io/index.html
- not free, but it'll do what you want and do it well.  Of course, if
you were living in the Linux world it's be a simple one liner that would
process the content of an entore directory tree and could be made to run
at predetermined intervals, as could the embedding of the artwork in
your files, assuming you do that also.
